The purpose of this study is to search for an optimum model among supervision of mental health social workers, work environment, and burnout. In order to perform the purpose, the researcher performed questionnaire via post mail to social workers employed in mental health settings(mental health hospitals, community mental health centers, social rehabilitation facilities) in Seoul. The data were collected from 102 mental health social workers for research analysis. The result of this study showed that there were more role conflicts, and more burnout, particularly in emotional exhaustion and depersonalization of client, when supervision was not practiced. Also, by the result of structure equation model, supervision affected the work environment directly, and supervision indirectly affected the burnout through work environment. These results suggest that supervision of mental health social workers plays a very important role in preventing burnout. Based on the results, implications for mental health practice were discussed.
